Good testing is small and deliberate. Test one rule at a time, write down the expected result, and use carts that clearly prove whether the rule matched.

Before you test

  1. Confirm whether the rule is a delivery customization, shipping rate, or combined rate.
  2. For calculated rates, confirm Shopify Carrier Service is available.
  3. Check Settings for weight unit, multiple rates behavior, and rounding.
  4. Keep unfinished rules inactive until their conditions are ready.
  5. Prepare at least one matching checkout cart and one non-matching checkout cart.

Test delivery customizations

  • Use a cart and address that should trigger the hide, show, move, rename, reorder, or sort action.
  • Confirm the existing checkout method appears before relying on a rule that controls it.
  • Check that the method list is still reasonable when the rule does not match.
  • Remember that dynamic carrier rates that include the carrier name cannot be renamed.

Test calculated rates

  • Use real checkout with an address inside the target country, city, postal code, wildcard, or range.
  • Test the low and high edges of tiered ranges.
  • For base-plus-increment rates, test a cart at the base amount and a cart that triggers at least one increment.
  • For product-based logic, test carts with and without the matching products.
  • For combined rates, test the individual tagged rates before testing the blended result.
