SMART Shipping Rates & Rules adds country, province, and postal code targeting for calculated shipping rates, plus delivery customizations for existing methods. Calculated zone rates need Shopify Carrier Service, while hide, sort, and rename rules do not.

2. Open Shipping rates and create the calculated rate for one destination group.
3. Add country and province targeting first, then narrow with postcode, ZIP, or postal code rules.
4. Add price logic such as flat rate, weight tier, cart total, quantity, product, per-unit increment, or percentage.
5. Repeat for the next destination group only after the first one tests correctly.
6. Use Delivery customizations if you need to hide or rename existing methods for a zone.
7. Open Shipping rates and check the Carrier Service notice if zone creation is disabled when calculated rates need to show at checkout.

Worked example: UK outward codes

A merchant offers local delivery around London and parcel delivery elsewhere in the United Kingdom. Instead of creating a separate rule for every full postcode, the merchant targets outward codes that represent the delivery area, such as SW1, W1, EC1, and nearby groups.

1. Create a Local London calculated rate in Shipping rates.
2. Set country targeting to United Kingdom.
3. Add the outward code groups used by the delivery team.
4. Set the local delivery price and any cart total threshold.
5. Create a Delivery customizations rule to hide local delivery outside those outward codes if an existing method also appears.

This approach keeps the rule readable. The delivery team can review the outward code list, and the store can test a few representative addresses before publishing.
